Randy Hendrickson Rudolph is the great-granddaughter of Ida Ann “Annie” Rice Wilcox, an American Indian–Utah pioneer whose 1863 rescue became a defining family story. Inspired by her grandmother Valeria Wilcox Hendrickson and a “hidden box” of papers, she spent more than sixteen years gathering letters, affidavits, photographs, and family stories, visiting the Old Wilcox Ranch, organizing reunions, and comparing over fifteen earlier accounts of Annie’s life. Her 2015 book, built around firsthand testimonies—from William Arnold Rose’s 1924 affidavit to recordings of Annie’s daughter Dorothy and insights from the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes—offers a carefully researched narrative that roots Annie’s story in both documentary evidence and living memory (Rudolph 2015).
