Davis County Museum Board
Farmington Historical Museum is one of six museums in Davis County—along with Syracuse, Layton, Kaysville–Fruit Heights, Centerville, and Bountiful—that each care for local history while together telling a larger county story. A 2022 national history census notes that states such as Utah may have fewer history organizations than their populations would suggest and highlights the role of small, often hybrid government–nonprofit museums in providing local access to the past (Rosenstein and Vakharia 2022).
The Davis County Museum Board connects these institutions in what Museums and Communities calls a community of practice, where museum workers, volunteers, and the public learn together through cycles of exhibition and feedback (Museums and Communities 1992). The board meets monthly, plans two shared themes or events each year, and will begin its fourth year of collaboration in 2026. This page includes a map of Davis County museums (fig. 1), the board pamphlet (fig. 2), and a brief summary of collaborative projects that strengthen how the museums serve their communities.
