In 1981–82, fourth graders at George Q. Knowlton Elementary created a printed guidebook, How Kids View Old and New Farmington, as a Davis County School District Gifted–Talented mini-grant project. Under teacher Gail Bock and principal Arnold Lund, students formed tour groups, researched historic sites such as the Davis County Memorial Courthouse, the mud wall, schools, homes, Lagoon and Pioneer Village, North Farmington, and the cemetery, then wrote kid-friendly descriptions and drew illustrations and maps. Designed for students, residents, and tourists, the booklet invites readers on walking and driving tours while encouraging them to “enjoy and appreciate this wonderful city.” Produced at the school named for longtime educator and historian George Q. Knowlton, the project continued his legacy by teaching children to value and help preserve Farmington’s heritage.
